SOME SIGNIFICANT EVENTS IN THE HISTORY OF THE CROSSIAN
VOICE ORGANIZATION
1980
- 1990
One of the biggest performances that
the group participated in 1988 was the Cultural show held at CYO gym (Now HCDC
gym) which featured the Missionary journey of the P.M.E Fathers in the
Philippines. The Crossian Voice was honored because during the practices, one
of its members, Junelie Barrios now known as “Bayang Barrios” was discovered by
Joey Ayala, the Director of the HCDC Cultural show. She became a member of
Joey’s “Ang bagong lumad” who popularized the songs Magkaugnay, Bathala,
Karaniwang Tao and many others.
In December 1989, during the
moderatorship of Mr. Socrates Luayon, the first Grand Alumni Homecoming of the
Crossian Voice was organized. It was joined actively by its former members. The
foundation anniversary falls every month of August.
2000
The Crossian Voice Organization
members were participants during the HCDC Golden Jubilee Cultural Presentation
(September 2001). All participants underwent auditions, one month workshop and
three months rehearsals in preparation for the big day. The CVO members were
trained not only in singing but in acting and dancing as well. Likewise, they
recorded an Album which featured the different songs used in the show. Majority
of the songs were originally composed by Joey Ayala.
In 2003, the Crossian Voice
Organization was very proud when “Bayang Barrios” won grand prize winner during
the Metropop Music Festival in Manila. She was the composer and the interpreter
of the winning piece. She even offered one of her albums entitled “Harinawa” to
all Crossian Voice members.
Bayang Barrios was also the interpreter and
composer of the theme song entitled “Matang Lawin” of ABS-CBN.
In 2006, the Crossian Voice Organization
together with the Crossian Rhythm club of the HCDC High School department were
guests in one of the segments of Balik Bayan hosted by Drew Arellano of Q TV
channel 27.
In the same year, the CVO members
joined actively the National Youth Day activities held in Davao especially in
the Liturgical celebrations. The song which won as theme song for the event was
composed by two of the CVO alumni: Nino Glen Cuestas and Elsa Corbit. Other CVO
alumni like Glenn Hallorina and Melissa Melicio were also interpreters of the
songs included in the album of the National Youth day 2006.
In 2008, Hilario Villaver, a former
president of the CVO, joined with the Himig Singers during the Asian Song
Festival in Indonesia. They won Grand Prize Winner in one of the Categories.
The following year he joined with the same group in World Choir games in
Europe.
In 2009, an alumnus of the Crossian
Voice Renato Togon was ordained as P.M.E priest. Fr. Renato, officiated Mass
with the Crossian Voice Alumni before he departed for Tanzania, Africa.
During the Second season of the
Pilipinas Got Talent, an alumnus of the Crossian Voice Organization Tata
Rosalita passed the audition. Cris Aquino commented that his voice was like
that of Jed Madela.
In 2011, Agnes Sylvia Lipumano, a
returnee of CVO performed as Sophie, the lead character in a Musical Play
entitled “Mama Mia”. The first performance was done last May and the latest was
last month of August. All performances were held in CAP Auditorium.
In September 3, 2011, James Jury Dela
Cerna, a former president of the CVO was ordained deacon in Kenya, Africa. He
soon to be ordained as priest next year.
In its 30 years of existence, The Crossian Voice
Organization does not only enhance the talent in singing of its members but it
also promotes and produces Religious Vocation for the greater glory of God.
