Significant Events

SOME SIGNIFICANT EVENTS IN THE HISTORY OF THE CROSSIAN VOICE ORGANIZATION

1980 - 1990

One of the biggest performances that the group participated in 1988 was the Cultural show held at CYO gym (Now HCDC gym) which featured the Missionary journey of the P.M.E Fathers in the Philippines. The Crossian Voice was honored because during the practices, one of its members, Junelie Barrios now known as “Bayang Barrios” was discovered by Joey Ayala, the Director of the HCDC Cultural show. She became a member of Joey’s “Ang bagong lumad” who popularized the songs Magkaugnay, Bathala, Karaniwang Tao and many others.

In December 1989, during the moderatorship of Mr. Socrates Luayon, the first Grand Alumni Homecoming of the Crossian Voice was organized. It was joined actively by its former members. The foundation anniversary falls every month of August.

2000

The Crossian Voice Organization members were participants during the HCDC Golden Jubilee Cultural Presentation (September 2001). All participants underwent auditions, one month workshop and three months rehearsals in preparation for the big day. The CVO members were trained not only in singing but in acting and dancing as well. Likewise, they recorded an Album which featured the different songs used in the show. Majority of the songs were originally composed by Joey Ayala.

In 2003, the Crossian Voice Organization was very proud when “Bayang Barrios” won grand prize winner during the Metropop Music Festival in Manila. She was the composer and the interpreter of the winning piece. She even offered one of her albums entitled “Harinawa” to all Crossian Voice members.

Bayang Barrios was also the interpreter and composer of the theme song entitled “Matang   Lawin” of ABS-CBN.

In 2006, the Crossian Voice Organization together with the Crossian Rhythm club of the HCDC High School department were guests in one of the segments of Balik Bayan hosted by Drew Arellano of Q TV channel 27.

In the same year, the CVO members joined actively the National Youth Day activities held in Davao especially in the Liturgical celebrations. The song which won as theme song for the event was composed by two of the CVO alumni: Nino Glen Cuestas and Elsa Corbit. Other CVO alumni like Glenn Hallorina and Melissa Melicio were also interpreters of the songs included in the album of the National Youth day 2006.

In 2008, Hilario Villaver, a former president of the CVO, joined with the Himig Singers during the Asian Song Festival in Indonesia. They won Grand Prize Winner in one of the Categories. The following year he joined with the same group in World Choir games in Europe.

In 2009, an alumnus of the Crossian Voice Renato Togon was ordained as P.M.E priest. Fr. Renato, officiated Mass with the Crossian Voice Alumni before he departed for Tanzania, Africa.

During the Second season of the Pilipinas Got Talent, an alumnus of the Crossian Voice Organization Tata Rosalita passed the audition. Cris Aquino commented that his voice was like that of Jed Madela.

In 2011, Agnes Sylvia Lipumano, a returnee of CVO performed as Sophie, the lead character in a Musical Play entitled “Mama Mia”. The first performance was done last May and the latest was last month of August. All performances were held in CAP Auditorium.

In September 3, 2011, James Jury Dela Cerna, a former president of the CVO was ordained deacon in Kenya, Africa. He soon to be ordained as priest next year.
